16-Dec: A belated photo of an apparent male Pallas´ Rosefinch at a feeder in Dalsland, western Sweden, appeared recently. The bird was photographed on 24th October. If accepted it would be the first national record.

Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica)
24-Nov: A first for Ireland found at Quoile Pondage, Co Down, Northern Ireland, on Sunday 20 November, and was still
present yesterday at least. Initially it was reported as "of unknown origin", but so far nothing about its behaviour or appearance suggests it is an escape rather than a wild bird - if accepted as the latter in due course, it will be the first record of the species for Ireland.

Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens)
09-Nov: News was released last night of a potential first for Britain, that was apparently picked up near Whitchurch, Shropshire, and taken into care. The bird, a male, is currently being looked after at Chester Zoo. Late news is that the bird has since died.

10-Aug: A new first for Denmark became a reality, when a Spotted Sandpiper graced the shore just south of Copenhagen on August 10th 2005. 29-April: a male Trumpeter Finch was found in a huge gravel pit at Boningen SO, central Switzerland. It was relocated the next day and successfully twitched by quite a few birders. This will be the first record if accepted!

Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava)
22-April:'Flavissima' Yellow Wagtail - 3 males were seen well and photographed, at Yotvata's circular field on the 22nd. The birds were seen alongside at least 4 'Lutea' Yellow Wagtails and another 200 from different subspecies. Since the only record of 'flavissima' in Israel was withdrawn by the observer and re-identified as 'lutea', these 3 birds represent the first Israeli record, if accepted.

03-April:A possible new record for Gran Canaria & Spain (if accepted). Has apparently been present at Alguineguin since Friday March 25th, discovered by Swedish birder Per-Erik Lindgren and confirmed by Per Sandberg. It is apparently holding territory, singing and attacking intruding pigeons

Fan-tailed Raven (Corvus rhipidurus)
30-March:A new record for Turkey. (if accepted) A single bird observed at Belen.  The ravens join flocks of migrating raptors and this seems to be the most likely explanation for this birds' appearance in Turkey. The nearest regular location is the northern end of the Dead Sea in Israel and Jordan, though the species has been recorded as a vagrant in Syria.

22-March:A new record for Denmark. A male off  the Faroe Islands has just been accepted by the Danish rarities committee. It landed on a fishing vessel east of the islands on 18th July 2002, but later died.

16-March: A new species, from Indonesia, where it is restricted to the islands of Flores and Sumba. The proposed taxonomy is largely based on vocalizations.

Wallace's Fruit-Dove (Ptilinopus wallacii)
13-March: First for Australia, if accepted. It was present aboard an Australian naval vessel for a day a few weeks ago. The bird was seen by several of the crew, one of whom recorded a good, detailed, technical description. BUT no photographs were obtained although the bird permitted approach to within a metre! The ship was in Australian waters some 170 km north of Cape Londonderry, the most northerly point on the Kimberley coast.
